Valentines For The Class for Under $10

It's been way too long, and quite honestly I'm not committing to anything at this point, but since Valentines Days is my favorite holiday I thought I would share Noah's home-made Valentines for his class this year.  Plus I made the cards on my own so why not share. You can scroll down to the bottom to get this printable and use it for your kids!

Simple, from the circle boutique (Target) and under 10$ plus the printing of the sheet which was a minimal cost.   We did print these from slightly thicker paper so they don't fold in the bag but otherwise a super quick project.   It took me less than twenty minutes to bag them all up and they're good to go!

Inside the bag is just a little notecard we cut out and those cute erasers we bought; 16 for $3.  For the bags: $2 for 12.  The best part is the erasers and gender neutral in colors so we don't have to sort them in any way.

Click the following link to download the Valentines so all you have to do is print and cut!

Decorating for Christmas

It was so much fun this year decorating the Christmas tree.  Noah was a huge help and did the kids Christmas tree all by himself and I didn't really have to make any adjustments because he did such a good job.   We got a couple new ornaments he helped pick out and he really liked that we added those on the tree too.  I see a tradition happening.
Since we got a way too big tree (oops) and had to cut the top off, we had to buy extra lights to fill up the whole tree.  We headed to Target on none other than early morning on black Friday to pick some up and finished decorating the tree by the end of the day.  Peyton was pretty useless but he sure was cute in his Christmas PJ's. We really thought he would be all about pulling things off the tree but surprisingly our little naughty boy has been pretty good so far. Well, minus my favorite pig ornament he keeps trying to take off and snuggle.   I guess I can't blame him, that pig is pretty cute.

At the end of the night after we put Peyton down for bed Noah and I stayed up and talked about all the things he wanted for Christmas and wrote our own Santa letter.   He was really excited to give it to him when we saw him this week and told him all about his batman legos.   We're prepped and ready to go for Christmas!

Picking out our Christmas Tree

We were on the ball this year and picked out our tree the day before Thanksgiving.  We were hoping we would have the place to ourselves and we were right!  I guess everyone is busy prepping for the holidays to come pick out a tree.  We were one of the only ones there which made it so much more fun.  Peyton patiently waited in the sled while the rest of the family walked around looking for the perfect tree.  We found it, or so we thought, until we brought it home and realized it was about two feet too tall.  Oops!

Christmas Pictures 2017

We got on the ball early this year and took some family pictures. I waited until the last possible moment last year hoping it would snow and we could get some fun snowy white pictures and we just ended up freezing our butts off, sipping hot chocolate in the car every couple of minutes to warm up.  The kids were actually really great through it all but I figured it would probably be better if we just skipped that hassle and got them done just a tad early.  As usual, Kelly did an amazing job and although we had two kiddos who weren't all that into it we managed to get a couple good ones to use on our Christmas cards. Plus I got to wear a tulle skirt so all is well in the world.

Our Easter Weekend

Much like everyone else, we spent lots of time with our family.  Talking, playing, opening up Easter baskets and eating lots of good food.  Holidays are so funny with kids.  I think it's going to be so relaxing and great to just sit around playing and then it's over and it hits me so hard.  I'm exhausted.  Work is almost a break today.  I get to sit here in peace and quiet.  It's kind of crazy.  And yet, I had a great time.  Noah was super excited the whole weekend.  Skipped all his naps which was even more exhausting.  He's so not ready to do that yet.  And Peyton was just happy to be around people, getting snuggled and loved on.  He's so on the move and just wants to move all the time.  He likes being busy so people being around was a great opportunity for him to do that.

We spent time with both sides of the family.  On Saturday, Jeffs.  Mine on Sunday.  We hosted Easter dinner and I made an effort to make it as fancy as possible.  All the nice places and linens out and it turned out just as I imagined.  I was so proud I made it work and everything turned out so yummy. After all the festivities were done Jeff took Noah to Lowes to run some errands and Peyton slept his last nap while I cleaned the house down.  Boy was it nice to lay in bed last night. Didn't take long to pass out and that was the end of Easter weekend.

Partners

Disclaimer:  Having been in a marriage with a shared computer many passwords are saved for many different accounts so I am using this as an opportunity to (lovingly) hijack my wife’s blog for this Valentine’s Day 2017

Being in law enforcement we use the term partners a lot, sometimes very loosely and sometimes very directly.  Some departments have assignments where officers work with each other all 40hrs a week for years at a time and others may just refer to their shift coworkers as partners.  Officers will tell you that these partners out in the field are essential to their work and also for life balance.  They are closest person to help in an emergency, the person who will help you process things that are tough to handle, and serve as a buffer to general life.  There are jokes, disagreements, achievements, successes, disappointments, and bonds that occur as a result of being with your partners all the time and there is not one person I have worked with that hasn’t helped me with some little piece of knowledge or advice that have helped make me better.

Similarly, and the central topic of this post, is how important domestic partners are to police officers as well.  And for me there is no person more critical to my everyday balance and growth then my partner, my wife.  Being a law enforcement partner is the worst; we work terrible, inconsistent hours, ruin weekends, sleep weird hours, mess up family time, and more.  We don’t exactly bring home a ton of positive work stories, although some are funny.  Instead you find our 3 year old son knows what a Taser is and asks if I took any bad guys to jail.  At most we go to bed together 45% of the time.  But the toughest part will always be that little doubt when I’m late or if you hear a lot of sirens going by the house.  I am in the fortunate position of knowing the situation while my wife may have to call in to check and make sure I am okay.  It has only happened a couple times but those phone calls are not fun to make for anyone.
Fortunately my wife is the best and she deals with all of these challenges I create and shoulders the load like a champion.  This was easier back before she was a mom and was given a bunch of solo free time but now with the two boys it’s a little trickier.  She willingly listens to my stories and frustrations and provides endless support to my needs, my goals, and career.  I trust her to say “hey dummy that’s a terrible idea” and sometimes (the less common) “Awesome suggestion, you should do that”.  She has without question helped me steer clear of some pitfalls as an officer and a supervisor with the insight and the viewpoint I do not possess.

This dynamic lifestyle is not without little victories.  Hugs with a bulletproof vest on are a little bit tighter even though it can be awkward to avoid touching any weapons.  Random middle of the week days off are fun to run errands and have dates.  And consistently one of my most favorite moments is when you crawl into bed in the late late night after a 10, 12, or 15hr shift after a big incident, arrest, or accident.  And there is that moment as you get settled in that my wife sometimes rolls over for a hug, or maybe just a hand squeeze or maybe just a little leg move to say, without any words, “Hey hubby, glad you’re home”, and then it’s back to sleep.

I am thankful for my partners at work, and I love my partner at home!!

Happy Valentines Day to all the partners out there supporting all the officers, hope you get to go on a date sometime this week, you know, when the schedule works out.

Peyton - 27 Weeks Old

Noah 26 Weeks
Yes, Peyton is 27 weeks old, but most important; It's Valentines Day!  My most favorite day of the year.  How great that we get to show the people we love, just how much we love them.  I know we should do this everyday, and although I'd like to think I do show my love here and there, this holiday is always a good reminder and a great jumping off point for the rest of the year. I took the morning off work today and I surprised Jeff and Noah by staying home and making some of Grandmas cinnamon rolls, and some eggs and bacon. I'm excited to see Noahs face when I give him his giant dog and some bath bombs which he loves to bathe with.  For Jeff, some hand made pocket hearts we can exchange and hide so we'll find them when we're thinking of each other.  Noah helped me make them and was a great helper stuffing the hearts when I was ready to sew them up.   He's been told what they're for and is really excited to hide them around the house for everyone to find.  Not to mention he said we, "have to make sure and give all the hearts kisses before we hide them to make sure daddy knows we love him..."  He's the sweetest most romantic kid ever.

Anyway, on to the update, right?

  • How old is Peyton?: 27 Weeks
  • Peyton is how big?:  18 lbs | Size 3 diapers | 6-9mo clothes
  • Sleep: ...and we're still still still swaddling, and just like last month, still chicken to let him be unswaddled.  Anyone else out there like me?  Yikes... I should really work on this, or really it'll work itself out when he can't fit into the swaddle any longer, right?  Otherwise though, he sleeps great, 12+ hours straight through the night so I'm not really complaining.  During the day he's still on the same schedule so it's really predictable and I'm loving it.
Up for the day around 8
 Nap an hour later
 Nap 1: 1.5-2 hrs
 Up for 1.25 ish hours
 Nap 2: 1.5-2 hrs
 Up for 1.25 ish hours
 Nap 3: 1-1.5 hrs
 Up until about 7p
Down for the night around 7-7:30p
  • Milestones: Food-wise, he's eating everything we give him.  We're slowly adding more and more food.  He's starting to take more solids at mealtimes and we've offered him some puffs which he's not really into but he is practicing picking up.  Once in a while he gets one. He's doing much better sitting and is much stronger.  He can pick up toys pretty easily and transfers them to the other hand or in his mouth.  I'm pretty sure he's teething but no sign of a tooth yet.   And finally, he's getting a little better at crawling although it's more like a little scoot on his tummy.  He can get up on all fours and then just rocks forward and back.
  • What I’m excited about/looking forward to: We're heading of to San Diego this weekend to my sisters wedding.  We're going to do some sightseeing while we're visiting and we're staying a couple extra days to take it all in.  Can't wait to finally see her walk down the isle and become a wife!  P.S.   I should get writing on that maid of honor speech.  *Yikes*

Bachelorette Party Weekend

Geez, what a weekend it was.  A long weekend full of lots of shennanigans, lots of sister bonding time and fun girly activities.  Oh ya, and way too much traveling.   I flew out Thursday to San Diego, spent some time with my sister and then drove out to Phoenix.  Spent a couple days there, took the wedding party to a barre class,  rented an airbnb which was an awesome idea, and celebrated my sisters wedding.   Drove back to San Diego, lost my wedding ring, *yikes*, rained the whole time, lost all hope, found it again in the morning! and finally went to the airport to head back home.  All in a long weekends time.  I'm tired just thinking about it.  I'm pretty sure I didn't get more than a couple hours of sleep each night.  We partied way too hard and had some good laughs, but mostly we're just ready for the wedding!

Our Christmas Week

We should really call it our Christmas Weeks plural, because we pretty much celebrated for two full weeks. It was crazy, and busy, and fun, and so exhausting and we had a great time but work never looked so good.  Did I say how exhausting it was?  We started out sick, first me, then Noah, then Jeff and then I'm pretty sure we passed it on to about ten people in our family.  There was a lot of throw up, night showers, puking in toilets and lots of laundry.  Some of us missed parts of days sleeping and the other ones took care of other people.  It was tough.  But in the middle of it all we did get to hang out and enjoy each other and have fun times.  Luckily for all of us, no one had too much food this holiday since we were all sick so at least we're starting the new year without a couple extra pounds.  Gotta find the good things in in life.

We started our Christmas at home opening presents just the four of us.  Of course Noah and Peyton both decided to sleep in even though I was up bright and early.  Santa must have done a good job because Noah seemed pleased even though he didn't get much from his Christmas list. Peyton had no idea what was going on but was a good sport and let Noah play with his toy.  We had a visit from Santa and went to family's house to spend a couple days with other family. We opened way too many gifts and stocking stuffers and finally made it back home.

The last couple days of break we spent recovering from all the madness and I finally feel like I accomplished things.  We got all the laundry done and folded, caught up on cleaning and took down all of the Christmas decorations which was a huge deal.  Looking at the house it's nice to finally be able to start the year fresh.  No New Years resolutions for me.  I always feel like if you want to do it, you just do it, so I'm going to continue enjoying life and spending as much time with family as we can.  Trying to take care of myself and have some alone time to give myself some sanity and really just trying to be healthy while enjoying life as much as I can.  And just try to survive!  Happy New Year!
